Finding a carrier for blackberry in Australia.

The main functions of a blackberry are the unlimited free email service and the internet browsing experience.

Now both of these are dependent on carrier and the plan you are in.

After a lot of beating around the bush in Australia, I found out that there is a plan on three which allows  business people who  come into Australia for short periods of time to take a postpaid blackberry plan with all the goodies included. Sorry no prepaid here

  1. Free unlimited blackberry email
  2. Free unlimited blackberry internet
  3. and $350 worth of calling

this cap is called the business cap

http://www.three.com.au/pricing?mod=MobilePlans&planType=New%20Caps&planName=$35%20Cap

Click here and check the “sim only” plan with $35 plan.

You get free unlimited blackberry internet along  with $350 of calling value. Its as good as it gets I guess.

Blackberry and an Iphone

Many people tell me that an Apple Ipod is way way better than a Blackberry.

How can you even compare them….Blackberry is for business people who have to be  email all the time and replying to emails.

The Blackberry physical keyboard is the best there is …typing on it is like typing on a real keyboard and the Pushmail service makes it being on a messenger.

Now iphone is nothing like that.

Of course you have a Pushmail service in Iphone, they are a paid service they cost some where from $150 a year

http://www.apple.com/mobileme/pricing/

and they are not that good. At that price you can buy a new apple hardware product every 3rd year.

There is one thing that i will give to apple which is the app store. it has million and billions of apps.

Though  Blackberry does not have so many apps in its store but you will find an app for pretty much anything you want.

And did you know that anything before iphone 4 does not have multi tasking  ( no music and web browsing at the same time)…I mean what the hell, my 4 year old Moto razer had multi tasking!!!! it also had video calling,,,I ve never used video calling  in it though…it is a redundant feature…. would you not use Google talk to video call for free rather than use an expensive video call.

Google for Blackberry

You will find  google has a host of apps which you will love

http://www.google.com/mobile/blackberry/

There is a Twitter app, Facebook app and a Foursquare app.

If you get a Blackberry I am pretty sure you will love it.

But do keep in mind that a Blackberry is meant to be used in a 3G environment and not a GPRS environment.

My Blackberry…My precious!!!

My precious

Well this is what I have been after I have laid my hand on my Blackberry Bold  9000.

My sister brought this when she was in India, her plans changed and she moved back from where she came ( No not hell ). As she had brought this Blackberry back in India it was locked to Airtel. The blackberry did not work for her in America.

My Nokia n79 had a problem with the motherboard and the wiring went poof. But I must say that in spite my prejudice for it , it had performed pretty well, The push mail service was okay, there were a few apps in the app store and the OVI suite is apparently the best in its class. I can send a SMS from my computer by plugging in the cellphone. How neat is that.? Well it was a  bit slow but well you cannot expect to get every thing right int he first go do you ?

Now coming back to the Blackberry Bold.

The first thing you realize when you first lay your hands on this baby is that it is fucking bold.

The display is relay really bright… and hence the name Bold. This  one is a keeper. You can use it under the 12 pm sun with out a hitch.

They have squeezed twice the number of pixels that are required on the same amount of screen and hence the powerful display.

Unlocking the Blackberry from Airtel

Well all blackberries in India are locked to the respective carriers.

I do not exactly know why but they have some kind of a security issue with it.It is easier to track down your BB if some one steals it.

This is how you go about it

You will need to write them (Airtel)  an email telling them that you cannot use the Blackberry with them as your dog died or grandma is sick, it doe not really matter. A cellphone carrier in India cannot keep a cellphone locked to himself, Its against the rules refer  TRAI guidelines.

I, for example gave this

Now that is what I call a satisfied customer.

My precious…

Blackberry is like a drug..you get addicted to it.And I am not kidding. the people at crack berry will tell you better.

The ability to read e-mail that is received in real time, anywhere, has made the BlackBerry devices infamously addictive, earning them the nickname “CrackBerry“, a reference to the freebase form of cocaine known as crack, which is also highly addictive

And really it is.

There is  chat program called the Blackberry Messenger, This little tool lets you communicate to anyone in the world if he/she has a Blackberry cellphone, for free! How handy is that!!

You really need to use this  to experience the addiction.

Anyone who owns a Blackberry will never move to any other phone. He just cannot. Every other phone will feel mundane to him.

Will he move to an Iphone?

You got to be kidding me!

No way.

And O there is an App Store too.

My love my heart, My preccccccious!!!!

Due to all this above reasons, I am calling it Precious….My precious!

Nokia N79…..Damn you!!!!

Now, My old reliable Moto Razer ferrari edition, had out lived its life expectancy, it recently broke down and I had to get a new one. Post paid mobiles with plans are not my thing as I tend to feel tied down to one carrier and I have problems keeping with in my plan

So I called up my old aide, my dad, and asked him to buy me a cellphone. He luckily had one lying around. He read the name out to me….N-o-k-i-a N…NNNNNN 97.

“What kind of name is Nokia ?” He askes me… I am not sure what to reply… Finnish  I thought!

THis was the one I was supposed to get!

Looks Wicked... Touch screen And a slide out Keyboard

N97…The most advanced phone that Nokia had to offer….wow!! this must be my lucky day I thought.

A few moons later the packet arrived. I was so excited about the packet that I kept my room mates up all night(all 3 of them) …. .I went through all the forums on the internet, watched all the reviews of NOKIA N97 on the youtube and was some how hoping that my dad made a mistake of reading the model number right and some how it was Nokia N900 “The geek phone”

The Ultimate Geek phone... "Drool:

The Ultimate geek Phone.....

The packet arrived… I jumped up and opened the packet….My dad indeed had made a mistake…It was not Nokia N 97…..It was a Nokia N79….Damn!!!!! “Why does every one in my family have to be  “cellphone”ically  challenged!!! ?

Nokia N 79

NO slide out Keyboard!!!!!Damn You Nokia ...Damn you!!!!!

O man… N 79… I rather get my old faith ful out and get it repaired. What does the N79 have that The old faithful din’t have. Probably a GPS but that is it… what good is a GPS anyway?. My old faithful was a head turner,  like me…..Stylish and Black.

“Riddly this, Riddly that,

Whose afraid of the big black bat?” – The Riddler,  Some Bat man movie.

Moto Razer Black

My old faithful... My Moto Razer!!!! I miss you! Damn you N97!

Now I am stuck with the N79…. The OVI suite is outdated, Does not install properly, the online sync does not work properly, The phone is not recognized properly on the computer, I am yet to figure out how to disable the phone from using 3G,restarted my PC some 10 times today…. All this is not helping ….Damn you NOKIA n79.
Although they had given a instruction manual with the phone, but the OVI suite was of 2008, it has been updated some 10 times in the span of 2 years, GPS maps are free and what not.

At this point of time after un-installing and installing my OVi suite some 10 times, a quote from my friend, Rahul Sharma, comes to my mind

“If at first you dont succeed, try, try again, and then if it still doesnt work get a hammer, then if it still doesnt work after that…….READ THE MANUAL, then go buy a new one and do it right the first time!”

How do I feel right now?……Amm …. let me say if you are expecting a Black Berry and are given a Nokia 1100 and that too with the torch disabled….. That is exactly how I am feeling.!!!

Damn you NOKIA N79…You rott in helll!

Having said all that …any one wanna trade a Nokia 79 to a Nokia N97 or a N 900 ?
