Give the hatred i have for the biggest con man of the century, Steve jobs, My sister , my own blood, went ahead and brought herself an Iphone 4g with out even my consultation.
And now she will be paying for it….very very dearly.With the legendary poor service of AT&T in America, and the fluctuating signals and the grip of death
Now before we proceed I think it is essential that you see this clip from “Futurama” season 6 titled “The killer App”
Coming back to the grip of death, this is what Steve Jobs had to say initially about it
Steve Jobs wrote back to one Engadget reader with a terse one-line response: “Just don’t hold it that way.”
And this is what Nokia said indirectly poking fun on the Iphone.

You can hold nokia phone in any direction with out effecting the reception and call quality
I mean really Steve? really, You are going to tell people on how to hold a cellphone instead of fixing the glitch.
Then came a series of so called “fixes”.
You need to buy a rubber bar for your iphone if you want proper reception
This is the iphone 4 g bumper that you need to BUY in order to make it work.
Now a few days later Apple guys came to an conclusion and announced that the glitch was in the phone s/w which calculated the bars to be wrong
Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong. Our formula, in many instances, mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength. For example, we sometimes display 4 bars when we should be displaying as few as 2 bars. Users observing a drop of several bars when they grip their iPhone in a certain way are most likely in an area with very weak signal strength, but they don’t know it because we are erroneously displaying 4 or 5 bars. Their big drop in bars is because their high bars were never real in the first place.
Now I am wondering what good is a cellphone which cannot make calls?
Its just a Ipod touch, is it not.?
Anyway now after that email from Steve jobs there was one more rumour that Apple already knew about the glitch and wanted to ent up the sales of the its iphone covers
Interestingly, a user on our sister forums who took back his phone to complain about this problem was given a free £25 ‘bumper’ case – perhaps adding fuel to the rumor that Apple was fully aware of this issue before launch…
This is just wonderful.
It keeps getting better and better by every single passing day.
I knew some thing was wrong when the iphone 4 demonstration went wrong at the keynote

My Motorazer had multi tasking, my nokia N79 had multi tasking, My Blackberry ( my precious ) has multi tasking

But still I have to say Theres nothing else like Apple. Either love it or hate it but one can’t ignore it!!
Now coming to the topic-
With all the glitches and newer models which keep coming back to back Iphone is still a phenomena and importantly a STATUS SYMBOL for people. One may have some another phone with approx same price but one would agree that Iphone has the oomph factor which make people go for it regardless of the quality. And anyways NOKIA is no #@#%$%% specially the phones which are supplied to India.
And in laptops Apple is probably the only company which is worth considering along with Vaio(?). Dell was at the top few years back but with their Chennai plant coming up and quality going down things dont look good for Dell either.
Status symbol by having a phone which drops your network connection if you hold it in some manner??……I don’t think so…Its like buying a ferrari which can only be pulled by bullock carts.
So next time you see some one carrying an Iphone 4g…you know what to say.
simple things like cut copy paste, 3g, Multi tasking have come to apple only now.
The whole world is moving towards 4g.
Steve will only launch 4g just before the world moves to 5g.
He wants to keep his customer base intact.

I will tell you what.Almost all the models of nokia which are available in the rest of the world are available in India.
A few exceptions here and there….When was the last time Apple released a product in India long with the US.
When do you plan to see Iphone 4 g in India ???
You will see a nokia product sooner than that..
Have you tried the new nokia OVI suite..it is still in its infancy but it is great. You should try it out.

Ok this will be a long reply. I wonder whether I should start with replying for the phone 1st or the laptop. I guess I would go with the laptop 1st.
When it comes to LAPTOPS all is NOT well with DELL! And that is coming from a person who has 2 DELL laptops at his home.
I bought a XPS 1st from DELL. At that time they were imported from Malaysia. That was the time when DELL was on top. On DELL community on Orkut people had nothing but praise about dell. A rare case was when someone would come about with a complaint against Dell.
But after Dell opened its plant in Chennai it is a downward spiral. It doesnt require to be a rocket scientist to find out why the prices are going drastically down for stuff when the configurations are going up and up.
My XPS which is malaysian made works BETTER than the Inspiron (Chennai made) which is 2 years newer and has higher configuration. And the battery it just died in 1 year whereas the XPS is still going strong. And its not just me…..now a visit to Dell Community on Orkut and there are many people complaining about Dell.
And if you are talking about “configurations on paper” only then why not buy a HCL or a Lenovo. They have the same configs and are cheaper. But we don’t buy that do we?? Because even though the configs are same QUALITY IS NOT THE SAME. Apple though on the expensive side thankfully isnt supplying us CHINA STUFF which other companies are doing with their stamps added to it.
Now coming to Cellphones-
1st of all Nokia is completely out of the picture. Iphone may have signal issues which I am sure would be corrected in few weeks but atleast it works. I dont want to spend 30,000 Rs/- on a Nokia phone which would hang when a phone call is made. Take ages to run and what not. Nokia maybe launching stuff simultaneously in India along with other countries but bitter truth is that Quality in NOT the same.
My friend bought an N95 from India and sold within 2 months because of excessive software issues and sold it within 2 months!! What a waste of money. While the other friend bought it at the same time from Singapore which is working fine. And their customer care is one of the worst in business. The less talked about it the better.
Personally Nokia is in my blackist. I am currently using Sony Erricson and am EXTREMELY happy with the product. When I buy a phone sometime in future it maybe would be an Iphone. If not it would be Sony ericson then but in nocase it would be Nokia even if I am getting it for half the price!
IPHONE has it share of issues and there are many phones with better features than IPHONE. But its also truth that IPHONE SELLS!
Jewellery doesn’t have any use. Its just worn to show to others. IPHONE may not have the best of features but its marketed well and it is considered a status symbol.
In Bollywood everyone knows that Aamir khan is better actor than Shahrukh khan but we all know who is more popular with the public……don’t we?

Exactly there is no denying that. But give credit to their marketing strategy that they hype their products in such a way that there is huge craze among people to buy them.
Macbook is definitely in a different league altogether specially after other brands have degraded their quality. But with IPHONE there is LESS SUBSTANCE AND MORE HYPE but the hype is what make people buy.
